Family Guy Something, Something, Something, Dark Side20th Century Fox (Blu-ray)
Picture/Sound: 4.5/3.5 Extras: 3
The Family Guy returns to their Star Wars pranks again this time reenacting The Empire Strikes Back with some pretty funny liberties. Most of the time this is great dead pan humor with some great twists on the sci-fi classic, but some of the stretches go a bit too far for laughs and come up short. Overall this is great for anyone who is a fan of the Empire classic and love to see a good roasting on occasion. I was surprised just how good this looked on Blu-ray. The animation of this series has always been on the simple side but it does lend to a really crisp presentation with vibrant color and solid blacks. The audio is also pretty good but shows its low budget roots. There are plenty of recycled sounds from the classic though, which is fun for us hoping to see the trilogy announced for Blu-ray at some point. This 2-disc set features a digital copy of the film for your portable device plus a feature commentary with the cast and crew. You also get a peek at the next installment and a factoid pop up.
While fun this wasn’t quite the side splitter I was hoping for. It is DEFINITELY not for kids as the language pushes the hard R barrier. Definitely fun, but probably best as a rental.
