Obama: Get Ready for the DTV Transition
The final act of the transition—in which broadcasters will shut down the remaining analog signals—is scheduled for Friday of this week, June 12, 2009. Previously it had been scheduled for February 17, 2009. Then-president-elect Obama, saying that antenna-dependent analog-TV households needed more time to get ready, had the date pushed back. Now, he says: "The number of households unprepared for digital television has been cut in half. Still, some people are not ready. I want to be clear: there will not be another delay. I urge everyone who is not yet prepared to act today, so you don't lose important news and emergency information on June 12. And I encourage all Americans who are prepared, to talk to their friends, family, and neighbors to make sure they get ready before it's too late." See full text of president's statement at whitehouse.gov. If you don't know where to start, see our Digital TV To-Do List.
