NYC to Get 24-Hour Best Buy
The mega-chain made the announcement last week. The new store will be located at the southern end of Union Square, a high-profile location between mid and lower Manhattan at the nexus of several major subway lines. The 46,000-square-foot site was formerly occupied by a Circuit City store. However, we're not talking 24-7. The new Best Buy will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 24 hours a day. Sunday hours are 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. Monday hours are 8 a.m. to midnight. The two closures total 22 hours per week and are necessary for "normal inventory operations, merchandise resets and staffing requirements," Best Buy said by email in response to our questions. Best Buy has other stores in the city and in the metro area but this one is expected to have a "vibrant atmosphere around the clock, appealing to a wide array of customers and maintaining the commitment to world-class and energized service day or night." That will include Geek Squad service, in-store pickup of items ordered online or via phone, and same-day delivery throughout the city's five boroughs for products bought at any time during the day. The musical-instrument department is expected to be the largest in the U.S., offering instruments, lighting gear, and pro DJ equipment. See press release.
