Dear Santa: Give Me Cheaper Blu-ray
The study combined information from Retrovo's Gadgetology survey of online consumers with data from its Pulse Report, which maps price and demand trends. Retrovo says 34 percent of respondents said they wouldn't pay more than $150 for a BD player. The Retrovo folks remark: "Selling off a bunch of old Profile 1.5 [sic] players on Black Friday is one thing, getting the price point on a good quality Profile 2.0 player under $150 is another thing." Retrovo also thinks consumers need tutoring on the benefits of Blu-ray. Nearly half have never seen a movie on BD (shock! horror!) while 18 percent have seen Blu but remain unimpressed. What displays, players, and titles were involved was not disclosed but we'd guess the hardware and software used had an impact. Two-thirds of seniors are unimpressed by Blu. And software availability remains a sticky wicket for some. The illustration, take from the Retrovo Blog, breaks down percentages of consumers by what they're willing to pay for a Blu-ray player.
